Mail in repair

Post your Repair - Contact Us First Before Booking In Your Device

Mail-In Repair Service – aGeek Chesterfield

I live far away and need you to repair something for me: how does this work?

Fill out Our Mail-In Repair Form (please contact us before filling out the form).

Include your Name and Contact Details including details about your device’s fault/s, then send in your device to the address provided via email or at the bottom of our webpage.

We will email you your ticket number and details after you finish filling out the form (if you do not receive a ticket number in your email, check your spam folder or call us).  We will provide you with an estimate after we receive your device.  You only pay for the diagnosis/strip down/handling charge for your device to be looked at by an engineer at this stage (We will call to arrange this).

Before Sending us a Mail-In Repair, please fill out our form.

Sometimes we receive devices with no note in the box, from people who have not filled out our form.

We don’t know who sent them, or what they want to be fixed. Please click [Hyperlink to Form] and fill out the form and include a small note in the box with, at minimum your Ticket Number and Name on it clearly. This way, we can match up the machine we receive to your online intake form and swiftly process your repair. If sending a device for data recovery that is locked with a passcode, please provide the passcode so we can process your recovery.

So you’ll figure out what’s wrong for free?

Yes. If you’re a regular customer and/or have a standing contract/agreement with us. We will provide you with a free estimate.  The only fees you would incur in this instance would be paying to ship and insure the laptop.

If this is your first time with aGeek then not to worry.  The cost of sending a device in may vary from type of device to type of repair but the upfront diagnosis cost will always be deducted from the final repair quote so you won’t end up paying more.

If you are a repair company and opt out of a repair, there is a further consultancy fee of £50.

If you have tried to repair it yourself and failed in a manner that will make our tech’s life harder, contact us before sending it in as a free estimate may not apply. We may still be able to help you.

How much is return shipping?

We offer free return shipping of your device, so we’ll send it back to you if you have service done.

If you decline to have the device repaired, there is a £20-£30 return shipping fee for devices where we do not perform a repair. Free shipping is exclusively for devices that we repair.

For larger, heavier devices or more expensive items exceeding £1000, an additional shipping fee may apply, or we may send it back without insurance if the shipping for your device reaches over £20.

Where do I send my device to?

We accept mail-ins at our store location, but only after you’ve filled out our form below.

The address is as follows.

aGeek PCB Techserv LTD

73 West Bars

Chesterfield

Derbyshire

S40 1BA

Backup your Data! Insurance won’t cover sentiment

Have you Backed Up any and all important Data from your device: (aGeek can NOT be responsible for any Data loss on your device);  also sending your device to us with insurance will cover the device but not your precious Photos and Data.

How long does a repair take?

This depends on what you’re having done.  Most screen repairs are done on the same day.  Same for keyboards, trackpads, and other services we carry the parts for.

Data recovery can be anywhere from one day to a month, and motherboard repair can take anywhere from an hour to six weeks depending on the severity of the issue and factors outside our control such as part availability but rest assured, we will always keep you updated.

For your particular situation, feel free to email or call us to inquire about the turnaround time for your particular device and issue.

What if I can’t find a box or figure out how to ship something? I want you to do it for me.

Of course, we can help!

We can send you a box you can use to ship your device:  all fit for purpose and including packing materials, AND a shipping label for you.  Will that seal the deal? Call us once you have filled out our form below and we’ll get that done for you.  All you’ll have to do is drop it off at a Drop-Off Point.  We’ll require a signature & insure the package to ensure it gets to us just fine, in a very durable box.  This couldn’t be easier. Priority mail means 1-5 days to get to you & us from almost anywhere in the country.

How much does a repair cost?

You can click around the site to find prices for various issues from Apple Repairs to VHS transfer to data recovery.  If you have a specific issue not addressed here, feel free to call or email us.

Knowing the model number and year of your machine is helpful to give you an accurate price.

How may I pay?

Mail-in repairs can be paid via Visa, Mastercard, Delta, Maestro, or BACs.

Are there issues you won’t fix?

There are some devices we do not service due to lack of parts, age, & other reasons.  Do feel free to call or email us to ensure that your issue is serviceable before sending it in.

We do not service logic boards and hard drives with prior work.

We do not work on boards or hard drives that have been already worked on.  If sending in a board that has had prior work, please contact us first to see if an exception can be made in your case:  same for hard drives.  If you are a repair store, worked on it yourself before sending it here, destroyed it, and do not contact us in advance, we are not fixing it so give us a call instead, everyone makes mistakes.

We do not accept board-only or part-only repairs.  We only work on devices when the full machine is sent to us unless agreed otherwise.

We DO service devices that are contaminated with human or animal waste. Someone has to do it, but please let us know so our engineers can wear the correct PPE otherwise they’ll also have a ‘crap’ time.

We are not able to service any device that contains urine, excrement, or insects.

Is there anything else I need to know?

Yes: before you send a repair, don’t forget to fill out our Form

DO NOT Send us The Original Box if you would like to receive it back!

Some people find their device boxes have sentimental value to them.  If your box is sentimental in value to you for any reason – DO NOT SEND IT TO US! WE FLATTEN THESE AND HAVE THEM RECYCLED TO SAVE ON CLUTTER AND STORAGE IN OUR WORKSHOPS!

All boxes received will be broken down, cut up, and disposed of the moment they are received, with no exceptions.

If you send us your device in its original box, such as the box Apple sells you the Macbook in – you will not receive it back.

We need YOUR Charger and/or Power Cable

In many cases, this can help us fault find and would speed up the repair process as we have a lot of repairs of similar devices and only a finite number of chargers and cables to use.

International Shipping Restrictions

Firstly, if you live outside the United Kingdom: I would highly suggest you find a local repair shop!

Dealing with customs and international shipping adds cost and time, and we cannot guarantee delivery times on international shipments.  If you want to send something to us, outside the United Kingdom:

  1. We do not cover shipping, either way, whether we repair it or not.
  2. We do not cover shipping, even on warranty issues.  Return shipping, even on warranty issues, is the responsibility of the customer.
  3. If a device is lost in transit, either way, we are not liable or accountable, for any shipments outside the United Kingdom.

These terms may seem harsh – and if you find them to be, we reiterate:  if you live outside the United Kingdom we would highly suggest you find a local repair shop! If you are outside the UK, we are NOT a good option. We have found that customs offices and international post offices are constantly losing packages and destroying parcels: and we simply do not wish to accept liability or the increased costs of these transactions for you.

DIY Device Repairs

Some customers come to us after trying to fix their own broken devices. We do not recommend do-it-yourself fixes however, being Geeks, we well understand the desire to fix things yourself.  The problem many find is, apart from having to learn the necessary skills by experimenting on their expensive pride and joy, they often need specific tools and most importantly quality parts.  There is nothing more annoying than spending an age fixing something and then reassembling it only to find the new components are faulty.  Not forgetting the insecurity when you reassemble and you have spare screws left over!

When you try to fix your devices such as your PC, Phone, Tablet, or iPad, you invalidate any warranty that you might have.  That leaves you responsible for the full cost of replacement.  This is best avoided.  Note however that if your item was physically damaged the warranty is probably voided anyway.

Since aGeek Chesterfield gives you a one-year warranty on our repair, you are at least getting some warranty back.  You can trust our technicians to make smart repairs that work well.  If something goes wrong, we’re there to support you with a free warranty repair or warranty replacement part if needed.
